Helicopter Date Night

by admin

Looking for a unique and romantic date night idea?

Well, a helicopter tour is a nice surprise to celebrate an anniversary, a birthday, a date night or a ‘just because’ occasion.

My husband and I have always wanted to try a helicopter ride with the kids so I ended up surprising him with a private “Hollywood Sunset Tour” for his birthday without the kids instead. HE LOVED IT! We flew with ‘Star Helicopters’ which is based out in Hawthorne and let me tell you that they did not disappoint.

I’m going to give you a run-down of what our date went like step-by-step so you can use it as a guide if you would like to do the same.

First, we got picked up in a really nice Navigator that had a bottle of Chardonnay with two glasses waiting for us. Star Helicopters offers this Full-Service package which includes a pick up, stand by and drop off service to your departure. You can just relax and not worry about driving anywhere. You don’t have to do this, you can just drive yourself if you want to. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday so I wanted him to just enjoy himself.

Next, we arrived at Star Helicopters and had chocolates, champagne & a personalized framed welcome message waiting for us.

I had my favorite photographer Will Joya (www.joyandlovephotography.com) meet us at the airport for a quick mini photo session before we headed on the tour to capture all of these special moments.

My husband doesn’t like surprises so this was killing him.lol. I was cracking up because I finally got him.

Finally, we flew off into the sunset to start our 30 minute ‘Sunset Hollywood Tour’ with Ben, our awesome pilot. Ben was very informative about many LA facts that we didn’t even know about.  He took great care of us and checked in throughout the flight over the headphones. This 30 minute tour was not too short either. It was just right for all of you wondering if 30 minutes is enough time in the air. Also, it was a bit chilly in the helicopter so I would suggest you bring a coat or warm sweater just incase.

*FYI…tip for the pilot is not included in the package*

This tour swooped us down by the Santa Monica Pier, flew over LAX, passed the Getty Museum, toward the cities of the stars, through Beverly Hills and over Bel Air. And of course we saw the iconic Hollywood Sign. Then we flew over the Hollywood Bowl towards Warner Brothers Studios and finally ended the tour by flying along the east side of Downtown Los Angeles next to the US Bank Tower (the tallest building in California). This was our favorite part! We literally were flying right next to the skyscraper.

Watching the sun go down was just SO romantic! I highly recommend the sunset tour!

TIP: Don’t forget your camera!

After the helicopter tour was over, our driver took us to Perch for dinner, which I set up in advance. Perch is only 13 miles away from the Hawthorne Airport.  It is a French inspired rooftop bistro. It sits on the 15th floor and has breathtaking views of Downtown Los Angeles. Make sure to make a reservation. If you want to stay close by to the airport, there is also Eureka, a tasting kitchen that is located at the Hawthorne airport.  It’s more of a casual restaurant/bar that serves American food like burgers.

Perch was nice. It’s much smaller than I pictured. The food was delicious though.
