There’s just something really exciting about the words “world trip.” We recently decided that life was too short to stay in one place, so we started packing and are currently traveling the world, this great big beautiful world, with our two kids. I still can’t believe we moved out of our house of 7 years and packed up our life into 1 suitcase. And what better place to start our journey than a place that already feels like a second home to us: Hawai’i.
We made it.
Exploring the lava rocks.
Here’s a quick slice of our journey so far:
Week One: MAUI Ritz Carlton Kona
Though it seems like most people would jump at a chance to explore the world, I must admit it was a little nerve wracking to leave everything behind. It was a lil scary. Thankfully, we chose the Maui Ritz Carlton Kona to make the transition a little more tolerable 😉
Just arrived.
Playing in Kapalua Bay.
During our first week, we took full advantage of the experience, taking pictures of the black lava rocks, going for long walks on the beach, and hiked to a popular cliff jumping spot (I wish I had jumped while I was there). Nia did an Aladdin Disney photoshoot and video there, which was super cool. We did a lot of swimming and snorkeled with a big sea turtle. I didn’t think we would see turtles that close to the shallow water. It was truly a beautiful (and surprising) experience.
Snorkeling in Kapalua Bay.
Jasmine and her daddy.
Of course, the food was not to be missed. We ate at the Burger Shack — Best. Burgers and Chips. Ever. There were hammocks at the Burger Shack and you could lay on them while you wait for your food or hangout after you finish eating.
Food coma.
Naturally, every room at the Ritz comes with an awesome view, especially when it rained. It was so green and lush. The kids got to hang out at the Ritz Kid’s Club. Nia and Knox made friends with the biologist expert, Catherine and talked her ear off. So funny.
Knox & Nia took mama’s cover up because they were cold.lol
Staying here made us a little less homesick and all the more thankful for the opportunity to travel.
Outside of our hotel balcony.
Nia sneaking in a kiss. She loves her brother 🙂
Month 1:Week 1: September 1-6, 2019
Week Two: Oahu with THIRDHOME
Oahu
We didn’t want to leave, but a week later we packed up again and flew to Oahu to stay in our THIRDHOME accommodations. What a gorgeous place! This place had a pool and all the real comforts of home, so it made our travels much easier. I even squeezed in a run around the neighborhood, just like back home.
Game time.
After our week of adventures at the Ritz, we took life at a slower pace this week. We had a pool day and recorded ourselves doing a floatie challenge. Our cranky neighbor complained about our loud music, but we still managed to have fun.
The not-so-fun part was when Nelvine got sick and finally went to the doctor for antibiotics. Good thing we were taking our time this week and had no plans. Poor guy.
We ate at Mooky’s, a local hangout that has some amazing local food and the best cup of coffee on the island. I tried hash, which is kind of like an omelet but without the egg. So… papas, ham, and bacon – so good! Kids said that when we settle in a home, they want me to cook it for them.
We also took a day to drive to Matsumoto Shave Ice, our fave place to visit when in town.
Lunch time.
Shark’s Cove
We did manage to break away from our luxury retreat to go into Waikiki, especially for meals. Because who wants to cook on a world tour? Not me.lol. The food is part of the fun! We loved eating at Duke’s, where we had some awesome plankton chicken. The international marketplace had our top two eating spots: Magnolia, which serves up tasty snow cones, and Goma Tei Ramen, where I challenge you to say that you’ve had better ramen soup than what you’ll find here. It’s just not possible. It was soooo good!
Duke’s Waikiki
A hike to Manoa Falls was the cherry on top. The beautiful waterfall was totally worth the hike. I could spend all day here, and almost did! Except, Nelvine wasn’t feeling so good so we rushed down to let him get some rest.
Manoa Falls
We love the sunsets so much here, so can’t leave yet. Stay tuned for our next two weeks in Hawai’i, and feel free to guess where we’re going next!
